Vietnam's fruit, vegetable export down 12.5 pct in 10 months

HANOI, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam earned over 2.7 billion U.S. dollars from exporting fruits and vegetables in the first 10 months of this year, posting a year-on-year decline of 12.5 percent, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on Friday.

In the period, Vietnam's major buyers included China, South Korea, Thailand and the United States.

Vietnam is striving to gain 5 billion U.S. dollars from its export of fruits and vegetables this year, according to the ministry.

In the 10-month period, Vietnam spent over 1 billion U.S. dollars importing fruits and vegetables, down 30.5 percent from the same period last year, with China and the United States being among the largest suppliers, according to the ministry.

Vietnam reaped a total of nearly 3.8 billion U.S. dollars from exporting vegetables and fruits in 2019, down 1.1 percent year on year, according to the country's General Statistics Office.
