Vietnam sees 2.9 pct fewer new firms in 10 months

HANOI, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 111,200 enterprises were established in Vietnam between January and October, decreasing 2.9 percent year on year, according to the country's General Statistics Office on Wednesday.

Registered capital of the new enterprises totaled over 1,594 trillion Vietnamese dong (69.3 billion U.S. dollars), up 11.1 percent, said the office.

New firms in the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector grew 30.3 percent, while those in industry and construction expanded 8.6 percent and services sector down 7.9 percent.

In the 10-month period, more than 37,700 firms, which previously temporarily ceased operations due to difficulties, resumed their activities, posting an increase of 8.2 percent. Meanwhile, over 13,500 enterprises were dissolved, up 0.1 percent year on year.

In October alone, some 12,200 new firms were formed, up 18.4 percent against September, the office said.

Last year, Vietnam saw 138,100 enterprises established with total registered capital of over 1,730 trillion Vietnamese dong (75.2 billion U.S. dollars), up 5.2 percent in quantity and 17.1 percent in capital against 2018.
