At 07:00 (AEST), the Australian dollar was buying 73.88 U.S. cents, up from 73.63 U.S. cents on Friday.
"The U.S. dollar remained under pressure against most currencies, sterling the notable exception as the clock ticks on UK-the European Union (EU) trade talks," Westpac Bank economists said in a morning note.
"AUD/USD rose from 73.70 U.S. cents to 73.99 U.S. cents - a three-month high - and starts the week around 73.85 U.S. cents."
At 09:30 (AEST), the local unit was buying 73.92 U.S. cents.
