At 07:00 (AEST), the Australian dollar was buying 74.05 U.S. cents, up from 73.62 U.S. cents on Wednesday.
The Aussie's strength comes on the back of a weaker U.S. dollar as well as better than expected Q3 GDP figures released the day before.
Data released Wednesday showed Australia's GDP was up 3.3 percent in the September quarter marking an official end to the country's first recession in 30 years.
At 09:30 (AEST), the local unit was buying 74.16 U.S. cents.
