TOKYO, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Tuesday, dragged down by the U.S. Dow index's overnight drop, with continued concerns over rising COVID-19 cases in Japan and overseas adding to downward pressure.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 145.05 points, or 0.55 percent, from Monday to 26,402.39.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 6.20 points, or 0.35 percent, at 1,754.55.

Oil and coal product, pharmaceutical and transportation equipment issues comprised notable decliners in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
