It was the third-highest value on record, with the highest value having been reached in April 2019.
Much of this growth was due to large permits for multi-family dwellings in British Columbia and Ontario, and an office building in the city of Toronto.
The value of residential permits rose to new heights in November, up 10 percent to 6.4 billion Canadian dollars, breaking the previous record set in September 2020.
In November, the multi-family dwellings soared 14.8 percent to 3.5 billion Canadian dollars while single-family permits rose 4.4 percent to 2.8 billion Canadian dollars, continuing the strong upward trend observed over the past six months, with values well above pre-COVID-19 levels since August 2020.
The non-residential permits jumped 19.5 percent to 3 billion Canadian dollars in November while the value of commercial permits shot up 31.2 percent to 1.6 billion Canadian dollars, and the total value of institutional permits increased 23.2 percent to 900 million Canadian dollars.
One Canadian dollar is about 0.78 U.S. dollar.
