Tokyo stocks drop in morning after Nikkei's 30-year closing high

TOKYO, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks lost ground Friday morning as investors opted for profits after the Nikkei closed at a fresh 30-year high a day earlier.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 109.87 points, or 0.38 percent, from Thursday to 28,646.99.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 3.49 points, or 0.19 percent, at 1,857.15.

Mining, iron and steel, and insurance-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
