Tokyo stocks close lower on profit-taking ahead of Biden's inauguration

TOKYO, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Wednesday as investors locked in recent gains, with some hitting the sidelines ahead of U.S. President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration later in the day.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 110.20 points, or 0.38 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 28,523.26.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 6.26 points, or 0.34 percent, to finish at 1,849.58.

Air transportation, marine transportation and land transportation-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
