S.Korea's import volume hits record high in March

SEOUL, April 29 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's import volume hit a new record high last month, indicating a recovery in domestic demand from the COVID-19 pandemic fallout, central bank data showed Thursday.

The import volume index stood at 128.50 in March, up 11 percent from a year ago, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK). It continued to rise for seven straight months, logging the highest since data began to be compiled in 1988.

The import value index jumped 19 percent to 138.56 in March, marking the highest since 1988.

In terms of both volume and value, the import of electrical equipment and machinery went up more than 20 percent last month.

The export volume index kept increasing for the seventh consecutive month, and the export value index continued to gain for the fifth straight month.
