SEOUL, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's current account surplus reached 88.3 billion U.S. dollars in 2021, data from the Bank of Korea (BOK) showed Thursday.

It was up 16.3 percent from the previous year, but the figure missed the BOK's forecast of 92 billion dollars due to a faster growth in import than export.

Export jumped 25.5 percent from a year earlier to 650.01 billion dollars in 2021, while import advanced 31.2 percent to 573.81 billion dollars.

Trade surplus for goods declined to 76.2 billion dollars in 2021 from 80.6 billion dollars in the previous year.

Services account balance recorded a deficit of 3.11 billion dollars in 2021, but it was sharply down from a deficit of 14.67 billion dollars in 2020.
