Finnair's "2021 Annual Report," published on Thursday, revealed that the airline increased its revenues by over 300 percent to 413.5 million euros (470 million U.S. dollars) during the last quarter.
Passenger numbers also increased significantly during Q4, from around 300,000 in the period between October and December 2020 to around 1.5 million in the same period last year.
However, Finnair's comparable operating result for the whole year remained heavily in red, at minus 468.9 million euros. This was still a slight improvement over the 2020 result of 595.3 million euros in losses.
Net sales for 2021 increased by 1.1 percent year-on-year to 838.4 million euros.
Last year, just like 2020, was very difficult for Finnair, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Topi Manner was quoted as saying in a press release, but the company has taken the first steps toward recovery.
Due to global supply chain challenges, he said that freight demand was exceptionally strong throughout the year.
According to the press release, Omicron is expected by the company to have a significant but short-term impact, weakening revenue and increasing expenses in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the fourth quarter of 2021.
