NEW YORK, April 13 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks advanced on Wednesday, buoyed by overall strength in tech names.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 344.23 points, or 1.01 percent, to 34,564.59. The S&P 500 rose 49.14 points, or 1.12 percent, to 4,446.59. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 272.02 points, or 2.03 percent, to 13,643.59.

Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with consumer discretionary and technology up 2.51 percent and 1.59 percent, respectively, leading the gainers. The utilities and the financials groups, however, suffered modest losses.

Shares of major U.S. tech giants, such as Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Meta Platforms and Google-parent Alphabet, all climbed.

U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded higher with all the top 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on an upbeat note.

On Tuesday, Wall Street's three major indexes ended lower after data showed U.S. inflation surged to a four-decade high in March.
