S.Korea's ICT export logs double-digit growth for 13 months

SEOUL, May 12 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export of the information and communications technology (ICT) products logged a double-digit growth for 13 straight months, government data showed Thursday.

The ICT products export advanced 16.9 percent from a year earlier to 19.94 billion U.S. dollars in April, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

It has continued to rise for 13 months since April last year, marking the highest April export in the ICT sector.

Import of ICT products gained 12.4 percent to 12.13 billion dollars, sending the trade surplus to 7.81 billion dollars.

Semiconductor export picked up 16 percent over the year to 10.9 billion dollars in April, topping 10 billion dollars for 12 consecutive months.

Display panel shipment spiked 22.5 percent to 2.05 billion dollars, and mobile phone export added 0.6 percent to 1.24 billion dollars last month.

The ICT products export to China, South Korea's biggest trading partner, grew 4.1 percent in April from a year ago.

Those to the United States, the European Union and Vietnam soared by more than 20 percent.
