The number of imported vehicles sold here was 23,070 in April, down 9.8 percent from a year earlier, according to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA).
The continued supply shortage of chips led to the lower sale of foreign luxury vehicles.
For the first four months of this year, the domestic sale of imported cars stood at 84,802 units, down 13.0 percent compared to the same period of last year.
German carmaker Mercedes-Benz ranked first in terms of automotive sales here among foreign companies by selling 7,822 vehicles last month.
Another German automaker BMW came next with the local sale of 6,658 units, followed by Volvo with 1,332 units and Audi with 1,051 units respectively.
The number of European models sold here was 20,399 in April, accounting for 88.4 percent of the total. Japanese and U.S. brands recorded the market shares of 5.7 percent and 5.9 percent each last month.
