SEOUL, May 30 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's retail sale logged a double-digit growth last month due to the lifting of social-distancing rules against the COVID-19 pandemic, government data showed Monday.

The combined revenue by major online and offline retailers amounted to 13.6 trillion won (10.9 billion U.S. dollars) in April, up 10.6 percent from a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Revenue by offline retailers gained 10.2 percent to 7 trillion won, and sale by online retailers advanced 11.0 percent last month to 6.6 trillion won.

The double-digit increase came as the government lifted all anti-virus measures except an internal mask mandate.

Revenue among major department stores jumped 19.1 percent in April from a year earlier owing to strong demand for clothing and food.

Those for convenience stores and discount outlets expanded 10.9 percent and 2.0 percent respectively on demand for clothing and daily necessities.

Online demand grew in double digits for food and beverage and cosmetics last month. (1 U.S. dollar equals 1,241.72 won)
