BRASILIA, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Brazil has forecasted a grain output of 272.5 million tons for the 2021-2022 agricultural season, with favorable weather conditions expected for the second harvest.

The figure represents a 6.7 percent increase over the previous season, state-run National Supply Company announced Thursday.

Cultivated area is expected to increase by 4 million hectares compared to the 2020-2021 season, the report said.

Soybean, Brazilian agriculture's main export product, is estimated to yield 124 million tons, down by 10.2 percent from last season, due to weather conditions.

Total corn harvest is forecast to reach 115.6 million tons, up 32.8 percent. Corn's second harvest alone is estimated to increase by 45.6 percent to reach 88.4 million tons, possibly the largest second harvest yield on record.

Sorghum, driven by corn growth, is on track to see a record output of more than 3 million tons.

Among winter crops, wheat production is also estimated to log a record 9 million tons.
