SEOUL, July 28 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's corporate bond issuance posted a double-digit fall in the first half of this year amid higher borrowing costs, financial watchdog data showed Thursday.

The issuance of corporate bonds stood at 96.1 trillion won (73.7 billion U.S. dollars) for the first six months of 2022, down 12.7 percent from the same period of last year, according to Financial Supervisory Service.

The double-digit reduction came as the country's central bank raised its policy rate six times since August last year to rein in surging inflation.

Bonds sold by industrial companies tumbled 29.2 percent over the year to 21.8 trillion won (16.7 billion dollars) in the first half, while those issued by financial companies shrank 6.1 percent to 67.54 trillion won (51.8 billion dollars).

Equity financing, including initial public offering (IPO) and rights issuance, soared 45.8 percent to 18.42 trillion won (14.1 billion dollars) in the first half due to the massive IPO of LG Energy Solution.
