S.Korea's retail sale grows in July

SEOUL, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's retail sale grew in single digits last month due to the moderated measures against the COVID-19 pandemic, government data showed Tuesday.

Revenue among major online and offline retailers increased 9.7 percent in July from a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

It kept rising for the fifth consecutive month as the government lifted all anti-virus measures, except for an indoor mask mandate, in April.

Revenue for offline retailers advanced 12.1 percent, and revenue for online retailers gained 7.3 percent last month.

Outside activity was boosted by the eased COVID-19 measures, contributing to solid demand for sports items and clothing of which sales went up in double figures in July on a yearly basis.

Revenue among major department stores soared 31.6 percent in July from a year earlier, and revenue for convenient stores expanded 10.4 percent.

Sales by discount outlets edged up 0.2 percent on lower demand for consumer electronics.
