HOUSTON, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- U.S. crude oil refinery inputs averaged 16.2 million barrels per day (b/d) during the week ending Aug. 26, 17,000 b/d less than the previous week's average, according to a weekly report issued by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on Wednesday.

Refineries operated at 92.7 percent of their operable capacity last week, compared with 93.8 percent in the previous week, said the Weekly Petroleum Data report.

During the same period, gasoline production rose but distillate fuel production fell, averaging 9.8 million b/d and 4.9 million b/d respectively.

Total motor gasoline imports, including both finished gasoline and gasoline blending components, last week averaged 584,000 b/d, and distillate fuel imports averaged 208,000 b/d.

U.S. commercial crude oil inventories, excluding those in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, fell by 3.3 million barrels from the previous week to 418.3 million barrels, about 6 percent below the five-year average for this time of year.

Total motor gasoline inventories went down by 1.2 million barrels from last week, some 7 percent below the five-year average for this time of year. Finished gasoline inventories increased but blending components inventories decreased last week.

Distillate fuel inventories went up by 0.1 million barrels last week, about 23 percent below the five-year average for this time of year.

Propane/propylene inventories surged by 4.2 million barrels from last week, about 8 percent below the five-year average for this time of year.

Total commercial petroleum inventories decreased by 0.2 million barrels last week. Total products supplied over the last four-week period averaged 20.0 million b/d, down by 6.4 percent from the same period last year.

Over the past four weeks, motor gasoline product supplied averaged 8.9 million b/d, down by 6.4 percent from the same period last year.

During the same period, distillate fuel product supplied averaged 3.8 million b/d, down by 8.8 percent from the same period last year.

U.S. jet fuel product supplied was up 10.9 percent compared with the same four-week period last year, according to the report.
