The returned growth in February output follows an 8 percent year-on-year drop in production last month, when production activities typically slowed down or came to a halt throughout the country for the lunar new year holiday.
The rise in output in February was largely attributed to footwear production, which was up 18.7 percent from the same period last year, and processed seafood output which rose 17 percent year on year, according to the General Statistics Office.
While smartphones are among the largest export earners for the Southeast Asian country, Vietnam reported a 10.3 percent decline in smartphone output to 14.4 million units in February from a year earlier, and that production of cellphone spare parts went down by 15.3 percent.
Despite the production contraction, the country's exports of smartphones and parts, grew 14.7 percent in February after a persistent weakness since September last year.
Vietnam recorded a trade surplus of 2.3 billion U.S. dollars in February with exports going up 11 percent to total 25.9 billion dollars and imports down 6.7 percent to 23.6 billion dollars, said the statistics office.
