The value of exports in May was recorded at about 520 million dollars while imports were valued at about 567 million dollars, resulting in a trade deficit of 47 million dollars, a significant increase from the 17 million dollars recorded in April, according to the data.
Laos' main export products included mixed gold and bullion, salts, paper and paper products, iron ore, gold ore, pulp and paper scrap, beverage, clothing, sugar and banana.
The country's main imports included diesel, land vehicles, mechanical equipment, steel and steel products, beverages, auto parts, wood pulp and paper waste, gasoline, electronic lines and cables and plastic products.
China, Vietnam and Thailand are among leading export destinations for Lao products, while Laos mainly imports goods from its three main trading partners, namely Thailand, China and Vietnam.
