S. Korea's export falls 15.3 pct in Aug. 1-10 period

SEOUL, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export fell in double digits in the first 10 days of August on the continued slump in semiconductor shipment, customs office data showed Friday.

Export came in at 13.22 billion U.S. dollars during the Aug. 1-10 period, down 15.3 percent from the same period of last year, according to Korea Customs Service.

The daily average export declined 15.3 percent in the 10-day period. The outbound shipment kept skidding for the 10th consecutive month through July.

Chip export tumbled 18.1 percent, while those for oil products, home appliances and computers retreated in double figures.

Car shipment advanced 27.2 percent, and export for ships almost tripled in the 10-day period.

Import plunged 30.5 percent over the year to 16.23 billion dollars for the first 10 days of August, sending the trade deficit to 3.01 billion dollars.
