SEOUL, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's passenger car export rose for the sixth consecutive quarter due to robust demand for eco-friendly vehicles, customs office data showed Monday.

Sedan shipment gained 16.0 percent over the year to 14.6 billion U.S. dollars in the July-September quarter, keeping an upward trend since the second quarter of last year, according to the Korea Customs Service.

Export for eco-friendly sedans surged 35.6 percent to 5.5 billion dollars in the third quarter.

Passenger car shipment to the United States, Canada, Australia, Germany and France advanced in double figures, but those to Saudi Arabia and Spain declined in double digits.

Sedan import dwindled 22.8 percent from a year earlier to 2.7 billion dollars in the third quarter on weaker demand for gasoline models.

In terms of volume, passenger car export added 2.9 percent to 610,000 units in the third quarter, but sedan import retreated 26.7 percent to 60,000 units.
