SEOUL, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export of information and communications technology (ICT) products marked the first rebound in 17 months in November due to strong demand for locally-made semiconductors, government data showed Thursday.

The ICT products shipment gained 7.6 percent from a year earlier to 17.88 billion U.S. dollars in November, posting the first turnaround since June last year, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Semiconductor export jumped 10.7 percent to 9.56 billion dollars last month, rebounding in 16 months.

Display panel shipment grew 3.7 percent to 2.08 billion dollars on robust demand for OLED panels used for mobile devices, while mobile phone export advanced 12.2 percent to 1.55 billion dollars.

Shipment for computers and peripherals dived 22.7 percent to 750 million dollars, and communications equipment export retreated 21.6 percent to 210 million dollars.

The ICT products export to the United States, the European Union, Vietnam and Japan all increased last month.

Import for ICT products dwindled 10.9 percent over the year to 11.44 billion dollars in November, bringing the trade surplus in the ICT industry to 6.44 billion dollars.

Import for mobile phones and display panels expanded by double digits, but import for chips and computers shrank in double figures last month.
