The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 99.46 points, or 0.24 percent, to 40,842.79. The S&P 500 added 85.86 points, or 1.58 percent, to 5,522.3. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 451.98 points, or 2.64 percent, to 17,599.4.
Seven of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with technology and consumer discretionary leading the gainers by going up 3.95 percent and 1.79 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, health and real estate led the laggards by dropping 0.39 percent and 0.29 percent, respectively.
