The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 683.04 points, or 1.76 percent, to 39,446.49. The S&P 500 added 119.81 points, or 2.30 percent, to 5,319.31. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 464.21 points, or 2.87 percent, to 16,660.02.
All of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with technology and communication services leading the gainers by adding 3.31 percent and 2.41 percent, respectively. Utilities posted the weakest growth, up by 0.15 percent.
