Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with real estate and communication services leading the laggards by losing 0.64 percent and 0.62 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, technology and energy led the gainers by rising 0.92 percent and 0.49 percent, respectively.
