Shopping in cyberspace came to 20.28 trillion won (15.2 billion U.S. dollars) in January, up 12.1 percent from a year earlier, according to Statistics Korea.
Online demand for travel and transport services spiked 25.8 percent, and the online transaction of e-coupon services soared 23.1 percent on the spreading trend to provide gifts such as coffee and cake through e-coupons.
Transaction of food and beverage in cyberspace advanced 13.7 percent, and demand for cosmetics expanded 21.2 percent.
Online purchase of household items, mobile devices, farm goods, computers, furniture, car accessories increased in double digits in the cited month.
Meanwhile, mobile shopping through smartphones increased 10.4 percent over the year to 15.02 trillion won (11.3 billion dollars) in January.
