HANOI, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's pepper exports in the first two months of this year declined in volume but soared in value, Vietnam News Agency reported Tuesday, citing the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

According to the ministry, Vietnam exported 35,000 tons of pepper worth 143 million U.S. dollars during the cited period, a year-on-year decrease of 12.3 percent in volume but a surge of 12.9 percent in value.

The biggest export market of Vietnamese pepper is the United States, accounting for 29 percent of the volume, followed by India and Germany.

In the two-month period, Vietnamese pepper was sold at 4.041 dollars per ton on average, increasing 28.7 percent compared to the same period last year.

According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association, Vietnam's pepper supply is forecast to decline 10-15 percent this year to 160,000 to 170,000 tons.

Last year, the country earned 912 million dollars from exporting 267,000 tons of pepper.
