Experts from over 10 major mobile communication companies at home and abroad and relevant firms attended 2017 IMT-2020 (5G) Summit held by the IMT-2020 (5G) promotion group in Beijing yesterday. The Standard for 5G Network Technology Test was officially released at the summit.
The reporter learnt that China has achieved important breakthrough in several 5G core technologies. With the development of technology and specification of standard, integrated application, as the major trend for innovation in 5G business, will be an important driver for the mobile communication market in the future.
2017: 1st year to implement standard for 5G
Chen Zhaoxiong, vice-minister of industry and information technology, pointed out at the summit that China carries out research & development of 5G technology and has made significant breakthrough in 5G core technologies such as massive antenna and ultra-intensive networking.
Standard innovation in 5G technology includes flexible system design, some technological innovation in new air interface and massive antenna, introduced by Wang Xiaoyun, vice-chairman of the IMT-2020 (5G) promotion group. The massive antenna technology is enhanced based on the antenna technology of China’s 3G and 4G, and now has become key technology of 5G.
Innovation is also made in coding technology of 5G. Polar Coding scheme of Huawei beat another two coding schemes and became the long block coding scheme under eMBB data channel of 5G. Wang said that multi-access technology and coding technology created by Chinese company and other companies from the industry realized integrated application of Polar Coding and LDPC under different assumptions, which is a good example of industrial cooperation.
2017 is the first of implementing standard for 5G. Countries from all over the world speed up development of 5G. Europe, the US, Japan, South Korea, Brazil and India boost rapid development of 5G by introducing strategy planning, preparing major projects and releasing frequency band plans.
China began to conduct test on 5G technology from 2016 and finished single-point technology test in 2016. The 5G technology will have external field test this year. China has built the world’s largest 5G test field in Huairou, Beijing.
Chen Zhaoxiong suggested that the IMT-2020 (5G) promotion group should continue to promote domestic and foreign industries to strengthen cross-enterprise cross countries, regions and enterprises to promote the formation of a unified 5G standard across the globe.
Chen Zhaoxiong required that in order to commercialize 5G technology by 2020, it should make innovations in wireless transmission, network architecture and security technology and strive to make breakthroughs in 5G equipment, terminal chips and core components with ultra-high speed, large capacity, low latency and high reliability to continuously enhance collaborative innovation ability of the industrial chain.
5G expected to lead to a new round of explosion in Internet
With continuous breakthroughs in 5G technology, its downstream application will see larger potential.
Chen Zhaoxiong proposed that the integration of 5G is one of the main trends of its business innovation as well as an important growth point in the mobile communications market. To explore ways to develop the integration of 5G and vertical industries, it should promote trial application of 5G in emerging industries, such as industrial Internet, Internet of Vehicles, to lay a foundation for large-scale application of 5G.
Wang Xiaoyun said that recently, while promoting 5G test, the IMT-2020 (5G) promotion group also focusing on 5G application. The technology is expected to be first applied in Internet of Vehicles.
Not long ago, the IMT-2020 (5G) promotion group set up the C-V2X work team for next generation Internet of Vehicles. The work team is mainly committed to studying overall solutions to cellular-oriented Internet of Vehicles, advancing the industry process via testing and promoting the industrialization of application of Internet of Vehicles.
A representative of a company attending the meeting said that the coming of 5G is only a matter of time. Then the Internet speed will improve 100 times to enhance. It is expected to lead to a new round of explosion in Internet,
5G will bring more subversive changes. Chen Zhaoxiong pointed out that as a main development direction of the new generation mobile communication technology, 5G will not only significantly improve the experience of mobile Internet users but also meet the huge needs for wide Internet. It is of great importance to accelerate the digitalized, networking and intelligent development of production activities and promote the transformation and development of the real economy.
