Xi'an launches first Sino-Europe cargo train to Warsaw

A cargo train left Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province for Polish capital Warsaw on August 18, presenting Xi'an started to launch the China-Europe cargo train for the first time to boost the development and opening of Shaanxi Province.

The train service will travel 9,048 kilometers in 12 days before reaching Warsaw, during which it goes through Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus crossing the border at Xinjiang's Alashankou.

The new cargo train carried 41 containers products, including machinery equipment, home furnishing, building materials, and electronic products, valued at about 38 million yuan. 80 percent of the carrying products came from Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta, Tianjin, and Shandong Province.

Meanwhile, the route cut the transit time from 42 days by sea to 12 days, at only one fifth the cost by air, Han Song, a senior official with Xi'an City said.

The outbound train service will run once a week, and the inbound train is scheduled to operate once a month.
