The central Chinese city of Wuhan, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) epidemic, is gradually resuming medical treatment for patients who suffer from other diseases.
Patients, including those with emergency or severe chronic diseases, can make an appointment at designated hospitals in Wuhan to receive medical services.
On Feb. 16, Wuhan announced a list of medical institutions to take in patients with other diseases, focusing on severe chronic patients, pregnant and lying-in women, children, and hemodialysis and burn patients.
More hospitals were later added to the list to provide medical services for critically ill patients and those with malignant tumors and chronic illnesses.
The Wuhan municipal epidemic prevention and control headquarters has also set up a team to coordinate the city's medical resources to properly carry out treatment for patients with other diseases.
Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, many hospitals in Wuhan had to stop providing normal medical services to admit the surging number of patients infected with COVID-19, which has caused more than 2,300 deaths.
