WUHAN, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Wuhan, the capital city of central China's Hubei Province, once hit hard by COVID-19 in 2020, registered a 28.6 percent growth in its gross domestic product (GDP) in the first half (H1) of this year.
The GDP of Wuhan totaled nearly 825.15 billion yuan (about 127.37 billion U.S. dollars) in H1, according to the municipal statistics bureau.
The figure was up 3.5 percent from that of the same period in 2019, showing a good momentum related to economic recovery and development. The industrial output of the city's major enterprises increased 32.5 percent year on year in the January-June period, with the manufacture of computers, communications devices and other electronic equipment seeing double-digit growth.
In the first half of 2021, Wuhan's fixed-asset investment rose 77.5 percent from the same period last year.
Wuhan has achieved the preliminary goal of making up for the negative growth due to COVID-19 last year, said Jiang Yu, deputy director of the Wuhan statistics bureau.
