The overall shipment on China's mobile phone market reached 47.38 million units in August, up 56.5 percent year on year, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Friday.
The number of new mobile phone models was 83 in the month, down 25.9 percent year on year.
In a breakdown, the shipment of 4G mobile phones stood at 40.72 million units, skyrocketing 250.6 percent year on year and accounting for 85.9 percent of the total. The number of new 4G phones was 66, rising 13.8 percent and accounting for 79.5 percent of the total.
The shipment of 3G and 4G phones supporting TD-SCDMA, WCDMA or CDMA2000 standards accounted for 81.4 percent, 34.3 percent and 27.8 percent of the total, respectively.
The shipment of home-brand mobile phones grew 75.3 percent year on year in the month, to 42.11 million units.

In August, the shipment of smartphones grew 72.9 percent year on year to 41.58 million units, accounting for 87.8 percent of the total.
