China National Machinery Corporation (Sinomach) has signed a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation with General Electric Company (GE) to jointly develop clean energy projects in Africa.
Under the MoU, the two sides will conduct joint development, investment and financing for clean energy projects in sub-Saharan region to help the region double the population using electricity.
A 102-megawatt wind power project in Kenya will be a long-term pilot project under cooperation of the two sides. Currently, some 80 percent people in Kenya do not have constant access to electricity.
The Kenyan government aims to extend installed capacities of wind power to 2,036 megawatts by 2030. Sinomach and GE have cooperated in infrastructure construction projects in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
