The Changning-Weiyuan national shale gas demonstration zone developed by PetroChina Southwest Oil & Gas Field Company is generating 7 million cubic meters of shale gas each day, exceeding the target and marking completion of exploration of the first national shale gas demonstration zone.
By far, the Changning-Weiyuan area has 83 shale gas wells in production, with annual output amounting to 2 billion cubic meters. In 2012, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and National Energy Administration (NEA) gave approval to build the Changning-Weiyuan national shale gas demonstration zone.
