Three cities in East China's Jiangsu Province, namely, Lian Yungang, Suzhou and Nanjing, were included into the 43 transport hubs for the China-Europe direct cargo trains, according to a 2016-2020 development plan released earlier.
Among the 43 transport hubs, Lian Yungang is a coastal main port hub, Suzhou is an inland hub for domestic major product sourcing destinations and also a key railway transport port for international mails, and Nanjing is a main railway transport hub, the plan showed.
In order to boost healthy development of the China-Europe cargo trains, the development plan had been released by the Development and Reform Commission and China Railway, specifying the tasks and development direction in the five years.
The plan also specified the spatial arrangement of transport channels, transport hubs, and railway lines of China-Europe cargo trains, and showed that the cargo train service system would consist of three routes -- an east route, a central route and a west route.
The routes will not only connect China with Europe, but also with East Asia and Southeast Asia. Meanwhile, some 43 transport hubs will be built along the three routes and 43 railway lines will be developed, according to the plan. It is estimated that there will be around 5,000 cargo trains running between China and Europe annually by 2020.
