The World Intelligent Manufacturing Summit (WIMS) opens on Dec. 6 (today). According to meeting schedule, keynote speech will be delivered and the 13th five-year plan for China’s intelligent manufacturing will be rolled out at 8:30-9:30, Dec. 7. According to previous media report, focus will be laid on key tasks like achieving breakthroughs in five types of critical technical equipment, strengthening foundations of intelligent manufacturing, cultivating and promoting five new models of intelligent manufacturing, and advancing the integrated application of complete equipment produced through intelligent manufacturing in 10 key areas. Constant efforts will be made in facilitating intelligent transformation of traditional manufacturing industry, and laying solid foundation for creating new competitive advantages of China’s manufacturing industry and building China into a manufacturing powerhouse.

Miao Wei, head of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), talked about intelligent manufacturing repeatedly in recent media interviews. Miao stressed that to achieve intellectualization, breakthroughs must be made in core technologies, while core technologies in areas like high-end sensors, controlling system, industrial software and industrial Internet await breakthroughs.

Miao indicated that intelligent manufacturing is the ultimate aim. In fact, the “Made in China 2025” divides intelligent manufacturing into three stages, namely, digitization, networking and intellectualization. At present, only a few enterprises truly achieve intellectualization worldwide. Digitization is the basis of intellectualization. We should first carry out digital reform in products, production process and management, then set up communication network between different equipment, equipment and product, equipment and people, and finally realizes networking. Intelligent manufacturing will only be possible after the realization of digitization and networking.

Miao remarked that by advancing the construction of innovation center for the manufacturing industry, the MIIT will strive to translate more achievements of scientific research into productivity. At present, the innovation center for power battery has been set up. For the next step, construction of the innovation centers for additive manufacturing and industrial robots as well as the provincial innovation center will be advanced. By 2020, around 15 state-level innovation centers will be built.

Miao claimed that the MIIT will strive for close integration of the software industry and the manufacturing industry, give full play to their superiority, and achieve breakthroughs in core technologies concerning manufacturing digitalization. Meanwhile, the MIIT will boost the development of high-end equipment and the Internet of Things, and strengthen cyberspace security protection in the age of intelligence.
