China takes the lead in the R&D of 5G technology and is expected to see the technology put into service for commercial use in the second half of the year, the Securities Daily reported on Monday.
At this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC), the Chinese ZTE Corporation (0763.HK, 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, won the "Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough Award" and the "CTO's Choice" for its Pre5G Massive MIMO technology.
The 5G industry is originally expected to become mature until 2020. However, thanks to technical contributions of the Chinese enterprises, the technology will be rolled out for commercial use in advance. It will be launched for commercial use in the second half of 2016, said Xiang Jiying, chief scientist of the ZTE.
ZTE is projected to take a bigger share in the 5G market than in the 4G market. The company's Pre5G products were rolled out for commercial use on a small scale in 2015, according to Zhang Jianguo, ZTE's general manager of its wireless product operation department.
