China's IC industry sees sales rise 18.1 pct in Q1

BEIJING, May 24 (Xinhua) -- China's integrated circuit (IC) industry reported a sales value of 173.93 billion yuan (about 27.05 billion U.S. dollars) in the first quarter of this year, an increase of 18.1 percent year on year, according to the China Semiconductor Industry Association.

The sales values of the IC design and manufacturing sectors respectively climbed to 71.77 billion yuan and 54.21 billion yuan, and the sales value of the IC packaging and testing sector rose 7.3 percent to nearly 48 billion yuan.

China imported 155.27 billion IC units with a total import value of 93.6 billion U.S. dollars in the first three months, with imports up 33.6 percent and their total value up 29.9 percent year on year, data from the General Administration of Customs shows.

China exported 73.7 billion IC units during the period, up 42.7 percent year on year, with a total export value of 31.46 billion U.S. dollars, up 31.7 percent year on year.

China's IC market is the world's largest. It saw robust growth in 2020, with the market size hitting 143.4 billion U.S. dollars last year, according to an industrial report.

The market was 9 percent larger than the 131.3 billion U.S. dollars recorded in 2019, said leading semiconductor market research company IC Insights.
