State Grid, a leading power grid operator in China, has started construction of the Ximeng-Taizhou and Shanghaimiao-Shandong ±800KV direct-current power transmission lines, the company announced on Tuesday.

The two ultra-high-voltage (UHV) projects, estimated to cost 47.4 billion yuan and scheduled to come on stream in 2017, will transmit electricity from north China's Inner Mongolia to east China.

Analysts estimated that State Grid would start construction of 26 more power transmission lines before 2020, estimated to cost 546 billion yuan. Taking into account projects that are under construction, the company will spend around 700 billion yuan on UHV projects before 2020.
