State Grid's northwest power grid is likely to see power oversupply in 2017 with surplus electricity being estimated at 150 billion kwh, according to the northwest power trading center.

The installed power capacity of northwest power grid is predicted to reach 243.96 million kw by 2017, with the network maximum power load being estimated at 76.7 million kw, and the total power generation capacity, renewable energy power capacity as well as new energy installed power capacity all exceed the maximum power load.

In the following years, major factors that could affect northwest grid's cross-provincial power trading would be its large electricity surplus, power waste problem of new energy such as wind energy and solar energy, as well as the rising power coal prices, experts say.

Northwest power grid is capable of external power supply and is in urgent need of cross-regional electricity transmission to relieve its oversupply problem.
