HARBIN, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Northeast China's Heilongjiang, a province which traditionally relies on coal for power, has seen increasing use of new energy.

According to the State Grid Heilongjiang Electric Power Company, the province has been increasing the use of new energy such as wind power, for coal-burning has caused a high concentration of pollutants such as sulfur dioxide, nitric oxides and coal dust in the air.

Statistics show that clean energy generated a total of 6.82 billion kilowatt hours of electricity during the first four months of 2019 in the province, up 25 percent from the same period last year.

The clean energy output accounted for 18.7 percent of the total energy production of the province during that period.

Heilongjiang has also innovated energy trading system by measures such as bundled transaction of thermal power and clean energy.

It has also been improving its power grid for more efficient clean power transmission.
