Chinese aluminum producers are cutting outputs although no official announcement has been made. The electrolytic aluminum output has been slashed bu 4.13 million tonnes since the beginning of this year, according to statistics from China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association.
Some analysts expect the entire year of 2015 would see a reduction of 5 million tonnes in the electrolytic aluminum output. In the meantime, alumina capacities are shrinking. For instance, Shandong Weiqiao Aluminum, a private maker, has announced to shut down 1 million tonnes of alumina capacities.
On Thursday, 14 aluminum companies gathered in Kunming, capital city of Yunnan province, to discuss over issues of output slash and purchase and storage. The companies did not release any statement vowing to slash outputs afterwards. Earlier, Chinese copper, zinc and nickel producers have all issued joint statements of output cuts.
