U.S. dollar dips amid risk-on mood

NEW YORK, June 8 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Monday, as appetite for riskier assets increased amid hopes for economic recovery from the pandemic, reducing safe-haven demand.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, fell 0.32 percent at 96.6279 in late trading.

In late New York trading, the euro was up to 1.1303 U.S. dollars from 1.1294 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound rose to 1.2722 dollars from 1.2670 U.S. dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar was up to 0.7020 U.S. dollar from 0.6967 dollar.

The U.S. dollar bought 108.33 Japanese yen, lower than 109.60 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar fell to 0.9568 Swiss franc from 0.9621 Swiss franc, and it decreased to 1.3363 Canadian dollars from 1.3432 Canadian dollars.
