Aussie dollar surges to highest level since 2018

SYDNEY, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- The Australian dollar surged against the greenback on Monday, reaching its highest levels since 2018 following a steep dive by the U.S. currency.

At 07:00 (AEST), the Australian dollar was buying 73.62 U.S. cents, up from 72.59 U.S. cents on Friday.

"The U.S. dollar index closed down 0.7 percent on the day, near a two-year low, with the greenback lower against all G10 currencies," Westpac Bank economist said in a morning

"AUD/USD was second only to the kiwi in the G10, rising from 72.60 U.S. cents Friday morning to 73.67 U.S. cents -- a high since December 2018."

At 09:30 (AEST), the local unit was buying 73.68 U.S. cents.
