Tokyo stocks opened mixed in early trading Friday as the yen's strength against the U.S. dollar put a damper on certain export-oriented issues. At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 25.90 points, or 0.13 percent, from Thursday to 20,496.93. In contrast, the broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 3.48 points, or 0.21 percent, at 1,650.69. Decliners were led by nonferrous metals and steel products, while air transport and financing business issues led gainers.
