Tokyo shares open higher on U.S. gains, rising oil prices

Tokyo shares opened the trading Thursday higher following gains in the overnight U.S. stocks market and the rise in oil prices. At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 127.75 points, or 0.80 percent, from Wednesday to 16,043.54. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 13.41 points, or 1.04 percent, to 1, 297.94.
