Tokyo shares opened lower Wednesday on weak U.S. stocks overnight and sluggish oil prices.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 102.58 points, or 0.61 percent, from Tuesday to 16,626.46.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 9.18 points, or 0.69 percent, to 1, 313.81. Decliners were led by banking, mining and marine transportation issues.
