Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday, following the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing at an all-time high as markets appear to support Donald Trump's election win.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 178.03 points, or 1.03 percent, from Thursday to 17,522.45.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 14.16 points, or 1.03 percent, to 1,390.51.
Notable early gainers comprised insurance, banking and securities-linked issues.
